What is the Hospitality Apprentice Scotland programme?
The Hospitality Apprenticeship Scotland (HAS) Programme is designed to support individuals looking to start or develop a career in hospitality. The programme combines practical work experience with nationally recognised qualifications, helping apprentices gain the skills needed to succeed in hotels, restaurants, and other hospitality settings across Scotland.

How old do you have to be to apply?
The programme accepts 16 – 24 year olds.
Who can apply?
Our apprenticeships are open to individuals who live in Scotland and are aged 16–25 who are passionate about a career in hospitality or professional cookery. Applicants must have a UK NI number.
I don’t live in Scotland, can I apply?
Currently, the HAS programme is only available to residents of Scotland the time the programme starts and you hold a UK NI number.
Do I need previous experience?
No prior hospitality experience is required to join the HAS Programme. It is designed for people who are looking to develop a long-term career in hospitality. While formal experience isn’t necessary, a genuine enthusiasm for the industry and a willingness to learn are essential. We provide all the training and support needed to build your skills and succeed in a professional hospitality environment.
How long do the apprenticeships last?
Our programmes typically last 18 months with structured learning, rotational training, and clear career progression opportunities.
Will I be paid?
Yes. Apprentices are employed by participating hospitality businesses and receive a wage in line with industry standards.
What qualifications will I gain?
Apprentices will complete industry-recognised qualifications alongside practical training.
Both hospitality and professional cookery apprentices work towards an SCQF Level 5 Diploma
Where are the programmes based?
The HAS Programme takes place at our participating partner hotels all across Scotland. You can view the full list of partner locations on our website.
Can I apply if I live in rural areas?
HAS operates throughout Scotland, with opportunities in both urban and rural areas.
What support will I receive?
As a HAS apprentice, you will receive comprehensive support throughout your programme. This includes guidance from our HAS team on your training and qualifications, regular progress reviews from City of Glasgow College, mentoring from experienced industry professionals, and assistance with any workplace or learning challenges.
We work closely with both you and your employer to ensure you gain the skills, experience, and confidence needed to succeed in your hospitality career.
Can I progress in my career after completing the apprenticeship?
