Employment history
Part-time waiter – Good Food Café, Aboyne
January 2021–present
I worked as a part-time junior waiter for the Good Food Café while studying for my Highers. During this time, I trained in all aspects of table service within a busy bistro cafe.
Key responsibilities and achievements include:
- Supporting the café manager on the front desk when needed
- Ensuring customers received prompt and courteous service
- Assisting larger groups with pre-booking and menu choices
- Maintaining high standards of cleanliness throughout the café
Volunteer worker – Good Samaritan Community Centre
2021 – present
As a volunteer with my local community centre, I worked as part of a team to help set up and run a regular drop-in café for young people.
Key responsibilities and achievements include:
- Assisting in the kitchen to prepare lunchtime meals
- Setting up the café tables and clearing up after service
- Supporting the team to serve food and organise rotas
Skills and experience
Customer service – as part of the community centre front of house team and waiting on in the Good Food Café.
Time management – I needed to develop excellent time management skills to work as a junior waiter while studying for my exams.
Ability to work unsupervised – I frequently worked on my own during daytime shifts at the café. Also had the responsibility of setting up the tables for the community café. I also operated the tills and can use a card terminal for payments.
Communication skills and teamwork – I was able to develop my communication and teamworking skills as a volunteer helping to set-up and deliver a successful drop-in youth café.
Interests
I like to spend my leisure time mountain biking and have competed in several junior downhill events. I also help to organise local bike riding events and have completed both first aid and bike maintenance courses. My other interests include playing football for our local five-a-side team.
